1. How long have you been playing the drums and who taught you?
I joined the band a week after my brother Russell did in 1974 and I was originally taught the snare drum by Bobby Grant.
2. Favourite tune(s) that the band plays?
My favourite tunes that the band plays is probably the couple marches called The Conundrum and the 25th KOSBs’ Farewell to Meerut (shortened to The KOSB’s).
3. Favourite trip or gig you’ve played with the band?
This is something that I’ve struggled to pick. I’ve narrowed it down to the many Japan trips that I’ve been lucky enough to go on and also our trips to Italy. We were lucky to have an agent in Italy so he managed to get us lots of trips out there.
4. Most memorable pipe band moment?
My most memorable moment with the band would probably be either playing as part of the mass bands at Hampden Park for the football or having a swim in the Caribbean Sea on a Friday night when on a trip to Barbados.
5. What is the funniest moment while being in the band? Probably the funniest thing that has happened when in the band was when we were on a trip to Florence, Italy and playing a prank on the organiser of the trip. While sitting in a bar we decided to phone up Lorraine Kay from the Scottish Executive and say that all the band had been in an altercation while touring the city and had actually been arrested. The prank didn’t last too long though as it was too hard to hold our laughs in.
6. What is your favourite thing about being in the band? Favourite part of being in the band is probably the friendships that I have made over the many years and all the banter that we all have with each other. Another thing that I love is the places that we have managed to travel over all the years I’ve been in the band.
