1. How long have you been playing the drums and who taught you?
I have been drumming since 2005, firstly being taught by Robert Walker. I then went for some extra tutoring to Jim Collins and after that I was taught by Kenny Walker.
2. Favourite tune(s) that the band plays?
My favourite set that the band plays would be the slow air The Big Picnic and then the jigs the Hammerman and The Timepiece.
3. Favourite tune(s) that the band does not play?
Since I listen to a lot of Trad music I just want the band to play all the tunes they bands play.
4. Favourite trip or gig you’ve played with the band?
My favourite trip I’ve been on was to Nuremberg in 2015. We played for the workers in a disabled workplace called the Noris Inklusion. The appreciation they had for us when we played for them was incredible. We were there with a ceilidh band too so we all ceilidh danced with the workers as well. It was all so humbling.
5. Most memorable pipe band moment?
My most memorable experience has been having the opportunity to travel to some amazing countries. Japan and Algeria stick out as being the most amazing cultures.
6. What is the funniest moment while being in the band? The funniest moment while I’ve been in the band would be the trip we had to Algeria. We were there as a celebration for the Queen’s Birthday so we were invited over to play for lots of local dignitaries. One night I had a few too many beverages and so unfortunately I was sick all over a band mates kilt! Not my greatest moment but had a great laugh reliving it the next day…once the hangover subsided.
7. What is your favourite thing about being in the band? My favourite thing about being in the band is the fact that everyone has went from being band mates, to friends and finally being family. I also love the amazing music that we all make together.
